new hand-painted wood cards.
real wood, real paint, write a note with a ball point pen on the back & pop it in the mail with a standard stamp.
available here next week.
A few years ago I found some wood cards from Cardtorial at the Renegade Art Fair in Chicago. I love this card so much, I have yet to send it. The wood is a great weight and I just can’t get enough of wood.
How cool is a wood card?
I’ve been checking out wood samples everywhere, trying different mediums with the wood, sizes, shapes and Hurray! The best art medium/wooden card combo is also my favorite thing thing to do- paint.
Here’s my favorite so far:
This one’s off in the mail, with a letter written in ballpoint on the back and a single stamp. I’ll post more when they’re done.
What do you think?
Finally, at this exact moment, all the kids are back to school full-time and I get to paint again!
In case you’ve forgotten, I paint furniture. I almost forgot, too.
Yup, it’s been about 9 months, but Kyle is now back in school full-time after his grueling recovery from hamstring release surgery. So, what was I working on again?
I’m painting this sweet little table with Suzani inspired medallions & trim.
Suzani inspiration.
Suzani fabrics have become popular lately- I’ve seen traditional antique suzanis used on modern pillows, furniture, wall hangings and also reinvented in art and textiles.
This one is felted art by Maryann Quinn.
Mixed media work by Kate Lewis– graphite, acrylic, oil, and pen on canvas.
I, of course, am besotted with the old, faded, handmade, slightly off-kilter originals like these:
and I’m sure their inspiration will turn up in many a painted piece in the future.
… a seriously happy 8 year old.
I’m playing hooky from the studio today… Luke’s home sick from school.
Having only one or two days a week to work, I feel guilty not being there. But what’s a better excuse than snuggling & watching really bad TV with my biggest fan?
It seems my obsession with sugar skulls has no limits.
Right now I’m working on two- this pink canvas with a steel gray sugar skull that has undertones of this really pretty green:
and this dark gray table. I haven’t started working on his face yet- do you think he’ll be sweet or sinister? Hmmm.
I’m not through with those sugar skulls, either. What about a bright, multi-colored sugar skull on the charcoal gray? and black? or some crazy muted colors on white, deconstructing, layering, repeating in patterns? and I’m dreaming of another trip to the National Museum of Mexican Art, right down there in Pilsen.
And yet, still thinking & preparing for what’s coming next. Do you have pictures of your favorite tattoos to send me?
Here’s that chocolate & pink table, in a beautiful new Etsy treasury.
Thanks, Aunt Adelaide’s Attic– for adding it to the treasury.
Thanks to Whale Shark Websites for creating the new treasury code generator that so easily allows me to add treasuries to this blog…

So happy to say that Vintage-Twisted is now in the brick & mortar store, Renegade Handmade, here in Chicago! Renegade is a really cool shop in Wicker Park, that sells beautiful & unique handmade goods.
Design Harvest is a brand-spanking new festival here in Chicago, taking place October 2 & 3. This fest will feature furniture and home accessory makers, vintage and antique collectors, and retailers of the home design industry all from Chicago. Beer, wine, music all on Grand Avenue, between Damen & Wood. Best part: free admission
Vintage-Twisted furniture will be featured in the Renegade Handmade tent! Yes, I’ll be visiting the festival, but my furniture will be there for the duration, in the care of the capable & fabulous Renegade Handmade team. (Thanks, Danny!)
If you’re heading down, let me know & maybe we can meet up. Good chance I’ll be hanging around the amazing Kim Chapman at the Urban Environments environment.
I had such a good time at the Renegade Craft Show this past weekend and met so many great people. Beer, dancing, music, sunshiney days- perfect! Hope you all had fun.
The 2 most popular pieces at the show were this much coveted sugar skull nightstand:
and this sweet little pink & green paisley bookshelf- two items that couldn’t be more different.
Thanks to Albert & Jim, the amazing guys of The Found, in the booth next to me. Not only were they so supportive to the newbie next door, but they also carry unique cards, coasters, buttons, magnets & lots more that I couldn’t live without. I’m still laughing at this card & hope to one day receive it from one of my beloved, evil friends…
